Twittered out

I gave up on Twitter.  I'm sure it has merits but they escape me.  It just seems so unnecessary.  I suppose because I use Facebook a fair amount I get status updates from my friends and family, and I'm not really interested in anyone else.

It was mildly interesting to look at famous people and see what they were up to, but I'm not really that interested in them either.  So, I thought it was a bit of a waste of time, and I have decided to delete my account.

That's me.  Firm but fair.  Well maybe not that fair.

I can't even figure out Facebook, it seems I should care... but I don't.

I was wondering about all these "social networks", do people really care about what someone has eaten in the last ten minutes, or interested in what they have been busy doing all day long. It seems so trivial and incidental. Maybe keeping up with friends and family, every few days, but who has got the time to respond to all the tweets and newsflashes, if they are still in the workforce ? I have given up on it all, best I can do is "blog" and somedays, that's a "no-go".

I just can't get my head around Twitter at all - I tried but it seemed somehow pointless. LIke you I use Facebook a lot so can't see why I would use Twitter.

The best description of Facebook/Twitter's usefulness I have read likened it to social proprioception--like you know where your arms and legs are, you know what's up with your friends/enemies/acquaintances in a vague sort of way. That made me feel much better about not really participating a whole lot. But, I really do use Facebook more for friends--Twitter seems to be mostly for business for me.

Facebook - me and my 327 close friends!

I've quite enjoyed catching up with 7 of the 100 people I went to school with, via Facebook. I've deactivated my account now, and do you know how many of my (huge number of) 42 friends commented? Just the one, Mrs Wembley. Oh, I feel so unfriended. Twitter? What's that?

Eloh: I love Facebook, it lets me keep up with people I would probably otherwise only exchange Christmas cards with.

ABiT: Yes, trivial is exactly the word that kept coming to mind while I was experimenting with Twitter. The noise to information ratio was all wrong for me.

Mrs J: Indeed. I struggle to keep up with everyone on Facebook, adding several hundred other random people on Twitter to try and keep up with was just too much for me.

DameEmma, I can't use it for work, so it had no real redeeming features for me. We can't use Facebook at work either, not that I've tried, but I tend mot to think about it while I'm busy anyway.

UberG: I like hearing joyful grumps from afar, thank you!

Middle Sis, as long as I'm still one of them I don't mind how many you have.

Isabella, I know where you're coming from. My number of friends seems to fluctuate and I can never work out who's gone. I assume that's because it isn't anyone I had much to do with in the first place. Or old age has wiped my brain clean.
